I wonder how often what we’re looking at isn’t what we think we’re looking at…

Today, I think we should talk about the question on everyone’s mind, does size matter?

The creations of my childish mind wandering. But nonetheless a good exploration of montage work in my local area and a fresh change from the normal pretty pictures of sunsets and images of the “pub on the beach at sunset” that are produced in the thousands on a daily basis throughout the summer!

I have long been an admirer of this style and it’s something I would like to bring to my work going forward. So, I thought I would dive in to what’s going on in the production of these images to help me make a step closer to this style.

It’s a shame I’m not Crewdson and yes I need a tripod!

Now, I’ve always loved the medium format film look, but for me, this time, it’s not going to give the results.

I am definitely on a personal journey here and as I move through it some of my ideas and preconceptions have changed and been challenged. Some of the dogmas have been eroded and I find myself exploring methods and approaches that I would never have contemplated before. Suddenly nothing is off limits. When I first started in photography, I was very much of the opinion you photograph what is in front of you, and that’s what you present to the world, nothing more nothing less…

Myself and I stumbling about in the dark!

So, what is nostalgic? What do people think of when you ask them? What’s nostalgic to you? I have been wondering this over and over. So I decided to ask! 

I put out a question on social media and hoped people would respond with their views of what makes them nostalgic.

What locations should I choose for my project?

Images, which for me are normal, from my childhood in the 1970s may not be acceptable in wider circles today.

Like a memory, the photographer always chooses what to omit.

I am not here to sell pullovers, but to promote an image... Benetton’s advertising draws public attention to universal themes like racial integration, the protection of the environment, Aids...

The more I take pictures the less I take pictures! That is to say, I don’t feel I need to always be taking pictures and indeed most of my work is now planned and considered and much less spontaneous. As I develop, I am less and less concerned with those shots I missed; but I must say, even when sitting quietly, if I am particularly struck with something, I will break the silence and pick up my camera.
